GMOA angered by SLC tax excemptions
By Rathindra Kuruwita
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday expressed its displeasure at reports the salaries of Sri Lanka Cricekt (SLC) officials and players were exempt from income tax.
Spokesman of the GMOA, Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe told The Island that the government had previously claimed that no one was exempt from income tax. However, a recent circular being shared on social media showed that SLC officials and cricketers are exempt from income tax.
“Professionals in the country have been damanding a tax reduction for months and the government has been deaf to these demands. We want the Department of Inland Revenue to explain what is going on,” he said.
