Fully-funded scholarships by government of India for Sri Lankan nationals
The Indian High Commission in Colombo is inviting applications for around 200 fully-funded scholarships for Sri Lankan nationals, across various levels. These scholarships are being offered for studies in prestigious Indian Institutes and Universities across subject domains, but not including Medical/Paramedical, Fashion Design and Law courses. The scholarships offered exclusively for Sri Lankan nationals are for the 2023-2024 academic session.
The schemes, under which these scholarships, have been offered, are the Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme. This scheme covers Undergraduate/Post Graduate and PhD courses in various domains, such as Engineering, Science, Business, Economics, Commerce, Humanities and Arts, among others.
Maulana Azad Scholarship Scheme: Masters Degree courses with preference to Engineering, Science and Agriculture courses.
Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme: Undergraduate courses, specifically in the field of Information Technology, leading to a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Technology.
Each of the above schemes covers full tuition fees for the entire duration of the course, monthly sustenance allowance, and annual grant for books and stationary. In addition, airfare to the nearest destination in India and an annual grant for educational tours to various parts of the country, apart from several other auxiliary benefits, are also offered. Selected candidates would also be provided hostel facility, inside the respective campus.
The HC said that the Government of India selects meritorious Sri Lankan nationals for award of these coveted scholarships. Selection of candidates is done in consultation with the Ministry of Education, Government of Sri Lanka. Necessary details are available on the website of the Ministry of Education at www.mohe.gov.lk. Interested applicants, and their parents, are advised to approach the High Commission of India, Colombo, or Ministry of Education, Government of Sri Lanka, to learn more about eligibility criteria and selection procedure.
The Sri Lanka Navy has seized a local multi- day fishing trawler, it’s four man crew together with a consignment suspected to be narcotics off the Southern Coast of the island.
The vessel is presently being escorted to the Dikowita fisheries harbour for further investigations and legal proceedings.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

The Indonesian Navy Sailing Ship KRI BIMA SUCI – 945 arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 15 Apr 2026 and was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in compliance with time-honoured naval traditions.
The vessel’s arrival is a key highlight of the ASEAN Plus Cadet Sail (APCS) – 2026 programme , accompanying a diverse contingent of Navy cadets from 26 different nations alongside their Indonesian counterparts.
The ship is commanded by Commander SUGENG HARIYANTO. Meanwhile, Officer Under-trainees of the Sri Lanka Navy are expected to participate in various programmes aboard the
ship and naval personnel observe its operational functions during its stay in the island.
Furthermore, the ship’s crew is scheduled to take part in programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Navy to enhance camaraderie between the two navies, as well as visit several tourist attractions in the country.
