The SJB called on the government yesterday to investigate the liability of the organisers of the Fox Hill Supercross 2024, which led to the deaths of seven persons.
SJB Kurunegala District MP Nalin Bandara said that the investigators had arrested two race drivers. “This is like arresting a batman of a cricket match for hitting a six and the ball striking a spectator. The organizers have criminal liability for this. It is their duty to take care of the spectators. The spectators should have been placed 50 feet from the track. The viewers were supposed to be placed behind the Army, and the track should have been watered after each race to prevent the possible rise of dust. Every bend of the track should have been fortified with sandbags and other precautions. None had been there at the place this accident took place. There is negligence in the hands of organizers. The law should be implemented against them. Instead, the investigators had taken into custody two racers for killing seven and injuring 23 others. Is it right to arrest a batman for hitting a six and a spectator getting injured by the ball striking him?” Bandara said.
