The Fire Department at Colombo Port successfully extinguished a sudden fire that broke out on a ship anchored at the JCT 4 jetty in the early hours of yesterday, Ministry sources said.

The fire erupted on the MSC Cape Town, a vessel belonging to a Geneva-based shipping company. The ship had arrived at the Port of Colombo from Singapore and was scheduled to unload 995 containers and load 880 containers, according to Port authorities.

Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has instructed the Chairman of the Port Authority, Keith Bernard, to conduct a full investigation into the incident.
