Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa yesterday said that there were false reports circulating in social media that he would allow chemical fertiliser imports in an attempt to scuttle the government’s organic fertilizer campaign.

Minister Rajapaksa said that there was no truth in the claims being made on social media that the government was ready to import chemical fertilisers.

“This campaign is an attempt to derail the government’s organic fertiliser campaign,” the Minister said.

Minister Rajapaksa said that the mudslinging campaign to impede the government’s efforts to end the use of chemical fertilisers, which caused many diseases, would not succeed, as the people were intelligent and backed the government.

Minister Rajapaksa said that at a time steps were being taken to create a prosperous country in keeping with the Vision of Prosperity policy programme, he would not allow anyone to sabotage the government’s mission.

The Minister of Finance said that such mudslinging only strengthened his resolve to serve the country.
