Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers about 100mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts. Several spells of showers will occur in North-Western province too.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.
Strong winds about (40-45) kmph can be expected at times in Northern and North-Central provinces and in Hambantota, Puttalam and Trincomalee districts.
Winds will be south-westerly over sea area around the island and speed will be (25-35) kmph.
Wind speed may increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speed may increase up to (40-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times. The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle will be fairly rough at times.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Warm Weather Advisory
Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology for 12th April 2025.
The public are warned that the Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Eastern and Uva provinces and Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the table below and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated. Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

Showers may occur in the coastal areas of Western and Southern provinces and Puttalam, Jaffna and Mannar districts in the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Western and Uva provinces and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon or night.
Fairly strong winds of (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
