Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Dr. Robert Floyd arrived in Colombo yesterday (31) . Floyd is scheduled to conclude his visit on June 04th.
The following is the text of Foreign Ministry statement: “During the visit, Dr. Robert Floyd is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on the President, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Environment and meet with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence and the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB).
Sri Lanka signed the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) on 24 October 1996 and a Facility Agreement with the Organization in June 2000 which led the way for the establishment of an auxiliary seismological station in Pallekale, Kandy, as part of the International Monitoring System (IMS) to verify compliance with the CTBT.
The key objective of the CTBT is to ban nuclear explosions by everyone, everywhere: above ground, under water and underground. The visit is expected to further strengthen cooperation between Sri Lanka and the CTBTO.”
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.
Taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint Sunil Galagama, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, as the District Secretary to Badulla Administrative District with immediate effect.
The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
