Even a minor deviation from current program poses a serious risk to country – Dr. Bandula Gunawardena
Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media, Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, at a press conference held on Wednesday (03) at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC) under the theme “Collective Path to a Stable Country”stressed that any deviation from the on-going government program spearheaded by President Ranil Wickremesinghe could pose a significant threat to the stability of the country,
The Minister pointed out that President Wickremesinghe boldly took on the challenge of rebuilding the debt ridden country. The President’s effort has led to an agreement for an extended credit facility with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and initiating discussions on debt restructuring. As a result, the country has adopted a conciliatory economic strategy and it is essential for everyone to acknowledge and adapt to this situation, irrespective of their preferences.
Drawing attention to the numerous reports indicating an increase in poverty among the country’s most vulnerable, the minister said that this trend is not surprising in a nation where economic growth plummeted to -08% and faced bankruptcy.
