EU reviewing GSP plus…
The visiting EU delegation met the Justice Minister Ali Sabry, PC, at his ministry on Tuesday (28) for talks on the judicial sector. The current assessment is meant to help the EU decide on the continuation of the GSP plus facility. The EU delegation comprised Nikolaos Zaimis, – Senior Adviser on Trade and Sustainable Development, Ionnis Giogkarakis-Argyropoulos – Head of Division South Asia, European External Action Service (EEAS), Guido Dolara – Coordinator GSP, Trade Preferences, Lluis Prats – Head of Unit, Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, European Commission, and Ms. Monika Bylaite – Desk Officer for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, EEAS. The delegation arrived in the country on Monday (27) and is scheduled to leave on October 5.
The EU mission in Colombo told The Island the delegation would meet representatives of the government, civil society, trade unions and employers, as well as UN agencies.
The EU also wants the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) amended and bring it in line with similar laws in practice in other countries.
