Energy Minister: Sri Lanka will be self-sufficient in meeting energy needs from renewable &clean sources”

Energy Minister Gammanpila lights the tradional oil lamp at the commencement of the event

Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila has said the government would ensure the country’s energy security. He said so addressing the employees of Lanka IOC at their head office yesterday (26). Ministry Secretary K.D.R. Olga and Additional secretary Chaminda Hettiarachchi were also present.

The Minister explained how the government was planning to turn Sri Lanka into the energy hub of Asia and improving the existing energy mix by enhancing the contribution of renewable and clean energy and expediting exploration of natural gas besides developing new & revamping existing refinery for producing Euro VI compliant Fuels. 

Minister Gammanpila also emphasised the transformation of countries’ energy mix towards renewable energy by way of facilitating and implementing the projects towards the wind energy, solar energy etc.

Managing Director of Lanka IOC Manoj Gupta, appreciated the vision of the Energy Minister in taking forward the decisions that brought more investments into the country and were required for enhancing the Energy security of the country in a most cost effective manner.

The Energy Minister felicitated many employees for their outstanding contribution during last year and urged all employees to appreciate the contribution of their parents, company & the society at large in their life. The minister felicitated employees who excelled in their respective departments & interacted with the employees at length. He also requested all employees to submit their views on the weaknesses in the system & the suggestions to overcome such weaknesses for further improvement and development of Energy infrastructure of the country.

LIOC is an integral part of Energy infrastructure in the country and the Minister appreciated the contribution of Lanka IOC to the national energy security & fulfilling the energy needs of the customers with innovative solutions & latest technologies.

Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.


Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

PNS TAIMUR & ASLAT arrive in Colombo

The Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) TAIMUR and ASLAT arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 12 Apr 26.

The visiting ships were welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in
compliance with naval traditions.

The duo of ships is commanded by Captain NIAMAT SAEED KHAN (PNS TAIMUR) and Captain NADIR MATEEN AFRIDI (PNS ASLAT).

Meanwhile, the ships are expected to conduct a Bilateral Naval Exercise LION STAR V with the Sri Lanka Navy in Colombo seas.
