Demand for Rs. 27 per unit of rooftop solar power

Secretary of the Electricity Users’ Association, Sanjeewa Dhammika yesterday (15) said that a request had been made to Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy, Prof. Udayanga Hempala to issue a circular instructing electrical engineers to sign fresh agreements on rooftop solar panels with a tariff of Rs. 27 per unit.

He said the response to the request had been positive.

Sanjeewa Dhammika said: “Rs. 27 was paid per unit of electricity produced by rooftop solar installations. However, a Cabinet paper was later submitted proposing to reduce the rate to Rs. 19 per unit. But Cabinet approval for this proposal has not yet been granted.

Therefore, we requested the Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy to allow payments of Rs. 27 per unit pending Cabinet approval. We also asked him to inform electrical engineers through a circular to proceed accordingly.
