Dr. Kohona explores ways to boost trade with China

Sri Lanka Ambassador in Beijing Dr. Palitha Kohona has requested the China Asia Economic Development Association Urban Cooperation Committee (CAEDAUCC) to establish Sri Lanka national pavilions, both online and offline, as part of the overall efforts to promote Sri Lanka products.Declaring Sri Lanka should make every effort to increase exports to China, Ambassador Kohona said increase of Sri Lankan exports to China could help Sri Lanka overcome the current crisis.

Ambassador Kohona said so following a meeting he had with Lu Hingjun, Chairman, CAEDAUCC on Thursday (02) to explore ways and means of increasing Sri Lanka exports to China.The Embassy quoted Lu Hingjun as having said that the Chinese consumers would warmly welcome Sri Lanka products, especially Ceylon Tea, sapphires, spices, coconut products, seafood etc. Those products were already famous around the world, and also, they have gained a high reputation in the Chinese market, Hingjun has said.

The Embassy statement: “E-commerce is the booming trend in China. Mr. Lu would promote Sri Lanka products online, through mechanisms such as Douyin (Ticktock in China). At the same time, establishing Sri Lanka national pavilions for offline promotions would also popularize Sri Lanka products among Chinese customers.The offline national pavilions will be launched in Beijing, Xi’an and Hunan and the online national pavilion will be initiated in Douyin.”

Cabinet approves 14 day Visa extension

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.

Taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint Sunil Galagama, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, as the District Secretary to Badulla Administrative District with immediate effect.

The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
