Dr. A.M.A. Azeez Memorial Oration
The Dr. A.M.A. Azeez Commemoration Meeting and the Memorial Oration will be held on Saturday February 7, at 9.45 a.m. at the Ghaffoor Hall, Zahira College, 406, Orabi Pasha Mawatha, Colombo 10.
Prof. M. Sornarajah, Emeritus Professor of Law, National University of Singapore, will deliver the Oration on the subject of “The Law in the Speeches of Senator Azeez, the Muslim Tamil Leader of Ceylon, and its Present Significance”. Capt. A.G.A. Barrie, International Project Consultant and Mr. M.C. Rasooldeen, Editor of Colombo Times will also speak at the meeting.
The Meeting will be jointly chaired by Mr. Khalid M. Farouk, President of the Dr. A.M.A. Azeez Foundation and Mr. Ihsaan A. Hameed, National President of the All Ceylon YMMA Conference.
Prof. Sornarajah had his primary and secondary education at Royal College, Colombo. He entered the University of Ceylon and graduated with LL.B (First Class Honours) and was a Lecturer in the Law Faculty. He obtained his Master’s Degree LL.M at the Yale Law School, U.S.A., LL.M and Ph.D at King’s College, University of London.
He was Head of the Law School at the University of Tasmania. During his sabbatical leave he spent a year at the University of Cambridge and wrote a book on the International Law on Foreign Investment, which established him in this field. He obtained the LL.D at the University of London for his published research in international law.
In 1986 he relocated to Singapore as Professor of Law at the National University of Singapore. After retirement he continued to teach there. He has been teaching Law at Universities in the US, Canada, Brazil, China, India and many other parts of the world. He built up a practice as a lawyer in international investment law and appeared for several states of the world, and still works as an arbitrator in cases involving disputes between states and multinational companies.
Prof. Sornarajah is a leading academic in his field and excelled in his profession internationally.All are welcome to this public meeting.

Cabinet approves 14 day Visa extension
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.

Sunil Galagama appointed as District Secretary Badulla
Taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint Sunil Galagama, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, as the District Secretary to Badulla Administrative District with immediate effect.

Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi appointed District Secretary Ampara
The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
