With live entertainment very much on the decline, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, DJs are coming up with novel ways to keep music lovers entertained.

Romesh J Fernando, better known as DJ Everton in the showbiz scene, is one guy who is doing it differently.

He entertains, his fans, on his YouTube DJ mixes, the ‘new normal’ way, he says, due to the current world situation.

Romesh says this format is now quite popular, around the globe, with the world’s best DJs also doing this scene.

“I was the first to start online DJ live entertainment in Sri Lanka, during the Covid-19 lockdown, and curfew, and continue to do so.

“Two of his shows, ‘Strictly Vinyl,’ and ‘Groove Theory,’ can be checked out, every Wednesday and Friday – DJ Everton/YouTube.

And, what makes DJ Everton standout from the rest is that he is a Vinyl DJ – playing records and not CDs.

Romesh started his career, as a disc jockey (DJ) while schooling – at St Peter’s College, Colombo 4 – when just 15 years old.

According to informed sources, Romesh is probably one of the very few DJs around, widely recognized for his vast music knowledge of music of all genres, great taste in music, and MC skills.

He is said to have dominated the hotel circuit down south, and in Negombo and the East, since the mid ’80s, until the pandemic showed up.

He started organizing his own discos, and events, in the early ’90s, and then formed his own outfit, Soundefx DJs, in the mid ’90s, and dominated the mobile DJ circuit – playing at top venues, to large crowds, both locally and overseas.

Romesh kept on expanding, moving into the recording scene, and now has his own recording studio.

Another plus factor is that Romesh is not only a vinyl DJ, but a vinyl collector DJ, with an amazing vinyl collection.

“I have always had a passion for vinyl and playing vinyl records is my forte, especially at vinyl lovers events.
