There were 129 Sri Lankan fugitives against whom red notices had been issued through the INTERPOL for various crimes in Sri Lanka, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said yesterday.

The DIG said most of the Sri Lankan fugitives were currently residing in Dubai, India or in European countries.

DIG Rohana said 40 out of 129 fugitives were wanted over financial crimes in Sri Lanka. A red notice was a request to law enforcement authorities worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

INTERPOL has also issued blue notices on 87 Sri Lankans to locate, identify or obtain information about a suspect in a criminal investigation.

DIG Rohana said that steps had been taken to bring back drug trafficker known as Kimbula Ele Guna, who was arrested in India early this week under the provisions of SAARC Convention and bilateral agreements between both Sri Lanka and India.
