Customs seize drugs sent by post

The Customs Department’s Postal Valuation Division seized a stock of drugs with a street value of Rs. 165 million. The drugs had been sent by post from several countries. (See page 2) Customs Media Spokesman Deputy Director of Customs (Legal Affairs) Sudatta Silva said the drugs including Kush and Methamphetamine had been found secreted in toys and cans of fruit juice in seven parcels sent to Sri Lanka by post from Spain, Britain, Germany, Canada and the Netherlands during the past few weeks.
The Customs said the drug stock contained 4,673 g of Kush and 9,586 pills (4,009 g) of crystal methamphetamine (ICE. The Customs Spokesman said that following initial investigations, the drug consignment had been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.No arrests had been made at the time of going press.
