Cryptocurrency scam: three Lankans arrested

Police have arrested three more locals allegedly involved in the cryptocurrency scam run by a Chinese couple.Police Media Spokesman Nihal Thalduwa, on Saturday, said the CID had arrested the Chinese couple and a local early this month for committing an estimated 14-billion-rupee cryptocurrency fraud. The Sri Lankan arrested early this month has been later released on bail after being produced in Court.

The scam carried out since 2020 from an office in the World Trade Centre involved as much as Rs. 14 billion, SSP Thalduwa said.The three locals in custody would be produced before the courts, the SSP said.Police suspect that at least around 8,000 people have been diddled by the suspects in the past two years.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
