CPC halts issuing of fuel to portable containers on 12, 13 and 14 April

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) yesterday announced that fuel would not be issued to those brining canisters, barrels and other portable containers at CEYPETCO filling stations on 12, 13 and 14 April.
CPC Chairman Sumith Wijesinghe said the decision had been taken to ensure that there would be no scheduled power cuts in the country for the above mentioned days.
“However, fuel will be issued to farmers engaged in agriculture. Fuel, required for agricultural vehicles, will be issued to cans if certified by the Agricultural Research Officer or Grama Niladhari (GN) officer of the area.
A large number of people had taken fuel in portable containers and that the IGP had been asked to intervene to stop the practice.
Ten thousand litres of illegally hoarded fuel was seized by police yesterday alone.
