Covid-19 dampens his enthusiasm…
The Coronavirus pandemic has made life difficult, practically in all parts of the globe, and entertainers are feeling the heat very badly.
The entertainment scene, in Sri Lanka, is at a complete standstill, and most musicians are feeling it extremely difficult to make ends meet.
Esric Jackson, a popular personality in the music scene, in Melbourne, Australia, had plans to work on some special events, with his band Replay 6, for the benefit of musicians, in Sri Lanka, who are now in a desperate position, unable to find any work to keep the home fires burning.
“I am aware of the immense difficulties musicians, back home, are undergoing, and I thought, in my own way, I do something for them.
“What I had in mind was to do a couple of special events, at a popular venue, in Melbourne, and send the funds to Sri Lanka, so that those musicians, who are in dire straits, would have something to look forward to.”
Although the lockdown, especially in Victoria, did disrupt Esric’s plans, he said he will make it a reality as soon things settle down, in his part of the world.
Esric also showed concerned about the actual payments artistes, from Sri Lanka, receive when they are invited to perform, at dances, etc., Down Under.
He said be believes most of them do not receive what is actual due to them as there are middlemen involved.
“I am trying to work out a method where Sri Lankan artistes, coming to Australia to perform, register with me, or make their entry, through me, so that they would be properly remunerated.”
Esric’s band, Replay 6, is still big in the dance scene, in Melbourne, with some even describing them as Melbourne’s best dance band.
Replay 6 had in its ranks one of Melbourne’s very popular female vocalist who, unfortunately, is no more in the land of the living.
Sandra Jackson was a sensation, on stage, and music lovers enjoyed her performances.
Both Sandra and husband Esric Jackson were the cynosure of all eyes, whenever they went into action.
In fact, Replay 6 has the proud record of bringing into the spotlight, in Melbourne, many Sri Lankan artistes who are now domiciled in Australia.
