Controversy surrounds SLSCA decision to continue Under 19 Division I Tier ‘A’ semi-final

by Reemus Fernando
Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association is likely to conduct the Under 19 Division I Tier ‘A’ cricket tournament semi-finals as scheduled despite Mahanama College, Colombo seeking court intervention to stop the same and reschedule the controversial quarter-final between Trinity and Mahanama.
Mahanama pulled out from their quarter-final on the second day morning citing that they had been disadvantaged after ground staff prepared the wicket before the scheduled time on day two morning. Trinity had taken the first innings lead by stumps on first day morning and Mahanama were looking forward to take advantage of the morning conditions favourable for pacemen.
Officials of Mahanama requested the courts to issue an injunction preventing the semi-final between Royal and Trinity which is scheduled for today.
‘The Island’ leant that both Royal and Trinity had reached Anuradhapura for today’s semi-final despite the SLSCA being informed of the court order yesterday.
They are schedule to meet at Saliyapura.
SLSCA officials were not available for comments.
The SLSCA also did not announce their decision regarding the inquiry on the controversial match between Mahanama and Trinity. Both the tournament secretary and the secretary of the Association were not available for comments.
