CMC to revamp parking management with new zone-based system
The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has announced plans to introduce a new parking management system within Colombo city limits.
Eng. Manjula Kularathna, Deputy Director of Traffic and Road Design at the CMC, explained that the new system will involve assigning a single contractor to each designated zone, as opposed to the current model where each road has its own contractor and administrator.
This new approach is set to be implemented within three months and aims to enhance convenience for drivers by allowing them to use parking spaces more efficiently within a specific zone.
Under the current system, parking tickets cannot be reused within the same zone for short-term parking. The new system will address this by enabling drivers to park in multiple locations within the same zone using the same ticket within an hour, thereby improving overall convenience.
Kularathna also mentioned that future enhancements will incorporate advanced technologies to further improve vehicle parking services. (SI)
