Chinese projects in Sri Lanka not white elephants – Ambassador Qi
By Rathindra Kuruwita
The majority of Chinese-funded projects in Sri Lanka were profit-making venture despite attemps by certain secions to make them out to be white elephant projects, Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong said on Thursday (28) during a meeting with representatives from media institutions.
“Some projects, like the Hambantota International Port and the container terminal in the Colombo Port, are important revenue earners for Sri Lanka. The Lotus Tower has become a symbol of Sri Lanka,” he said.
Ambassador Qi mentioned China had always been a friend to Sri Lanka and will continue to defend it in international forums.
