China unveils roadmap to boost ties with Lanka

China has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening ties with Sri Lanka, stressing that partnership with Beijing opens doors to future-focused opportunities and long-term development.

At a briefing on the outcomes of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, China presented its new long-term development blueprint and pledged stronger cooperation with Colombo. The session adopted recommendations for the 15th Five-Year Plan, mapping out key economic and social targets for the next five years and a broader vision through 2035, centred on high-quality growth, technological independence, green development, improved living standards and strengthened national security.

Speaking at the 2025 China Aid Training Alumni Reception in Colombo, attended by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong said the two nations continue to move forward as development partners, building on a foundation of longstanding friendship.

He pointed to the 2025 visits of President Dissanayake and Prime Minister Amarasuriya to Beijing, which yielded agreements setting new strategic direction for bilateral relations.

Sri Lanka’s flagship initiatives. such as Clean Sri Lanka, Digital Transformation and Rural Development, align closely with China’s priorities, creating new avenues for cooperation. Beijing is ready to expand collaboration in port development, modern agriculture, digital economy, clean energy, tourism, and other sectors under the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative.

Ambassador Qi noted that China’s rapid modernisation continues to generate wider opportunities for global partners, positioning Sri Lanka to benefit as the two countries work toward building a shared future.

Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.


Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

PNS TAIMUR & ASLAT arrive in Colombo

The Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) TAIMUR and ASLAT arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 12 Apr 26.

The visiting ships were welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in
compliance with naval traditions.

The duo of ships is commanded by Captain NIAMAT SAEED KHAN (PNS TAIMUR) and Captain NADIR MATEEN AFRIDI (PNS ASLAT).

Meanwhile, the ships are expected to conduct a Bilateral Naval Exercise LION STAR V with the Sri Lanka Navy in Colombo seas.
