‘Call of the Wild’: Jeep Club Expedition 2023 explores the enchanting Yala National Park
The Jeep Club of Sri Lanka (JCSL) recently organised the highly anticipated Jeep Club Expedition 2023, aptly named “Call of the Wild.” A group of 20 ardent JCSL members embarked on an extraordinary adventure, immersing themselves in the awe-inspiring landscapes of the majestic Yala National Park. With their families by their side, they gathered at DIMO 800, fuelled with excitement and eager anticipation, ready to set off on a journey that promised unforgettable memories.
The expedition kicked off with a delightful breakfast at 6:00 am, served amidst the warm camaraderie of fellow Jeep enthusiasts reminiscing the frolic adventures of previous events. Thereafter, the convoy commenced its thrilling expedition into the heart of nature.
The first day’s adventure took a momentary pause at ‘Tranquil Wild’, Lunugmawehera, where members indulged in a scrumptious village-style lunch. As the expedition resumed, the first day was dedicated to exploring the captivating territories of Yala Block 6, famously known as Lunugamwehera National Park, and Yala Block 5. The members marveled at the wonders of nature while experiencing the untamed beauty that Yala had to offer. They gathered at the Weheragala Dam at Lunugamwehera to witness the enchanting hues of a breathtaking sunset, etching the scene deep into their souls. As the evening descended, participants came together at the hotel for a delightful social gathering, where stories were shared, friendships forged, and the bond of their Jeep Life strengthened.
The second day saw the Jeep Club Expedition venturing into Yala Block 1, an area renowned for its abundant wildlife, fostering a deep sense of respect for the flora and fauna of national parks.
The Jeep Club members were enlightened by the wildlife authority and senior members of the JCSL, who educated them on the dos and don’t of responsible driving, ensuring minimal disturbance to nature before entering Block 1. Moving forward, the convoy reached Yala Block 2, nestled between Manik Ganga and the Kumbukkan Oya rivers, offering an exhilarating adventure to the JCSL members. Crossing the untamed waters of the Manik Ganga was a thrilling experience, adding an element of excitement to their journey.
