Bye-Bye DJ Smokey

DJ Smokey, a disc jockey of repute, has decided to call it a day and will not be seen behind the consoles…hereafter.
He says, after 43 years, spinning discs and keeping the music loving public entertained, he finally made up his mind to quit the DJ scene. And, that came about after his New Year’s Eve session…welcoming 2022.
When asked why the sudden decision to quit his DJ profession, he said that his retirement is to give an opportunity for our talented DJs to step in and make their mark…creating their own identity.
“I’ve been in the DJ scene for 43 years, doing my thing not only in Sri Lanka, but overseas, as well, and I thought it’s time for me to say goodbye to my DJ profession and concentrate on my business venture.
“Yes, I will now be fully involved in my catering business, ‘Like no Other,’ which is going from strength to strength, and, what’s more, I will also be able to pay more attention to my social work which brings me great satisfaction.
Vivian’s last gig, as DJ Smokey, was at a New Year’s Eve party, down south.
“At the end of this event, which herald in 2022, I handed my mic, and headphones, to a young and talented DJ who was also spinning the discs, along with me. And the crowd went into a frenzy when I announced that this was my last session, as a DJ, after ‘rolling out the barrel’ into 2022.
‘They kept on asking for more and it was a very emotional experience for me.”
Perhaps, we have now got to look out for ‘Like no Other’ with Vivian Candappa!
