Bus driver held with 18 kilos of ‘ice’
Acting on a tip-off, the Colombo Crime Detection Bureau (CCD) yesterday (15) morning arrested a person driving a bus carrying 18 kilos of ‘ice’ at Hegalla in Kosgoda. The bus was heading to Colombo from Galle.
Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that the detection had been made at 5.20 am. At the time, the police intercepted the bus there hadn’t been any passengers, the police officer said. The suspect is a 27-year-old man who had been dropping off parcels of drugs to dealers in various towns.
“The driver made a bid to escape. We thwarted his attempt,” DIG Rohana said, adding that under interrogation the suspect claimed that he was asked to drop parcels first at Hikkaduwa, then Seenigama and then Kosgoda.
Investigations revealed that the bus had been acquired recently for a period of one month for Rs 750,000 with an agreement in place to buy it outright within a stipulated time. (SF)
