Bishop’s College clinch Under 15 girls’ tennis title

Bishop’s College clinched the Under 15 Girls’ title of the All Island Schools Tennis tournament as they beat Maliyadeva Balika, Kurunegala 3-1 in the final played at Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Thursday.

Venuli Jayasinghe gave Maliyadeva a singles win with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Bishop’s Yuhansa Peiris, but victory in the second singles match by Diyansa de Silva, the first doubles win by Sarah Perera and Siyara Devappriya and a walk over ensured Bishop’s 3-1 triumph.

De Silva beat Nisali Dissanayaka 6-4, 6-1 in her singles encounter.

Sarah Perera and Siyara Devappriya registered a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bovindee Jithsara and Oluni Munasinghe in the first doubles match.

During the round robin stage they overcame Musaeus 3-2 and Maliyadeva 3-2 before knocking out Ladies College 3-0 in the semi-final. In the boys’ semi-finals Ananda College will meet Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala while Royal College encounter Wesley College. The boys’ semi-finals will be played today.
