Auction of Police dogs
The Edtiorial in The Island newspaper of 17th August was brilliant and all animal lovers should present the Editor with a massive bouquet.
Yes indeed the auctioning of these dogs was simply “pathetic”. These canines should have been offered to their handlers first “free of charge”. It is going to be a traumatic period for these canines. I hope and pray that they would settle down with their new owners.
Re homing is no easy task,. Since these canines would definitely miss their handlers , there is the possibility that they could turn aggressive and start attacking the new owners, this has happened before.
So what course of action would they take? I suppose “shoot to kill”.
Having made good use of these canines, they deserve better treatment. After all as the Editor rightly points out some sort of “retirement home” would have been ideal. These canines are not going to live for thirty forty years, maximum would be five years, so I think the authorities concerned should have come up with something better for these canines. We make use of the canines and when they are no longer needed, they are sold. Typical attitude of many people!
I refer to Champa Fernando’s letter to the Editor and I too would appeal to the President to help our “dumb”friends. You are the one person who could do something. So please help.
