Asitha misses out five wicket haul at Old Trafford
Right-arm quick Asitha Fernando narrowly missed out on taking a five wicket haul in an innings in the first Test against England. The 27-year-old was the most effective among the Sri Lankan bowlers finishing with four for 103 and accounted for the big wickets of Joe Root, Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett.
Only two Sri Lankans quicks have claimed five wicket hauls in England.
Rumesh Ratnayake was the first to do it when he took five wickets at Lord’s in 1991. Dhammika Prasad followed him in 2014 when he starred with five wickets in England’s second innings in a game that Sri Lanka went on to win to wrap up their first series win in England.
