Any clandestine attempt to remove KKS Cement Corporation steel will be foiled – Army Commander
By Norman Palihawadana
Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva yesterday (25) said that no one would be allowed to remove a stock of scrap iron worth over Rs. 1 billion, from the Kankesanthurai Cement Corporation complex situated within the northern high security zone.
The Army Chief said so when The Island sought a clarification regarding an alleged attempt made by some influential persons to remove the scrap iron, claiming they were in touch with a powerful politician.
Sources in the North, too, confirmed the alleged attempt.
Lt. Gen. Silva said that the Army couldn’t intervene if those seeking to remove scrap iron had proper authorisation, but no one would be allowed to clandestinely move them out.
