Anuka blasts unbeaten knock as Mahanama win

Anuka Wijewardana exhibited his ability to hold the long handle to good effect towards the end of the innings as he clobbered an unbeaten 92 runs to set the stage for Mahanama to record 132 run victory over Prince of Wales in the Under 17 Division I cricket encounter at CCC ground on Tuesday.

Wijewardana promoted up the batting order came to bat when they were 87 for three wickets in the 23rd over and anchored the batting with an unbeaten knock, which contained five fours and six sixes.

Mahanama were 145 for four wickets when going into the final ten overs where they accumulated 97 runs.

In reply, the Cambrians struggled to score as Mahanama produced tight bowling spells. Dasith Gunathilake, Inuka Karannagoda and Anuka Wijewardena who bowled their full quota of overs gave away only 48 runs in their 30 overs. Gunathilaka who took three wickets was the pick of the bowlers as the Cambrians were bowled out for 110 runs with 15 balls remaining.

Meanwhile, at Lake View, Dharmaraja suffered their third consecutive defeat in the tournament after coming almost close to record a win. St. Sylvester’s were 166 for nine wickets at one stage in pursuit of a target of 174 runs, and their last pair held their nerve to pull off an exciting one wicket win with three overs to spare. Arjuna Udugoda produced an allround performances for the winners. For Dharmaraja, Dakshitha Manukalpa who completed his full quota of ten overs captured five wickets for just 22 runs.
