Anika, Oneli, Savini and Janali advance to singles semis
105th Colombo Championships
Reigning national champion Anika Seneviratne, Oneli Perera, Savini Jayasuriya and Janali Manamperi recorded wins to advance to the women’s singles semi-finals of the 105th Colombo Championships at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association clay courts on Tuesday.
Anika Seneviratne who was eliminated in the semi-finals at the last edition beat Sethmi Sumanaweera 6-1, 6-1 to advance, while her sister Alana was beaten by Oneli Perera (6-1, 6-1).
Meanwhile, Thehan Wijemanne ousted Chathuraya Nilaweera to secure a place in the semi-finals of the men’s singles.
Wijemanne, who partners Nilaweera in the men’s doubles beat the latter 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the quarter final. At the last edition in 2019, Wijemanne was eliminated in the quarter-finals by eventual champion Sharmal Dissanayake, while Nilaweera reached the semis.
In the other two quarter finals, Luka Knese and Dumidu Dilum recorded wins to advance to the semi-finals.
Knese beat Savit Weerasinghe 6-4, 6-2 and Dilum scored 6-0, 6-3 to oust K. Vairavanathan.
