Acting on PCoI findings within AG’s purview – PM

by Norman Palihawadana
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that initiating action on the recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday attacks was a matter within the purview of the Attorney General (AG).
The AG will determine the next step after studying the findings, and possibly advice the police on the process that needs to be followed in this regard, the premier told The Sunday Island.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister, Namal Rajapaksa said that it was wrong for some people to give a political twist to the recommendations of the Commission.
“This should be considered as a national question, not a political issue”, he remarked.
The Minister recalled that during the war, the international community remained mum on LTTE atrocities, while trying to undermine the efforts of Sri Lanka’s armed forces at every turn.
“They still remain blind to reality”.
Parliamentarian S. B. Dissanayake said that though the PCoI report highlighted lapses which led to the Easter Sunday carnage, there was no revelation either on the background of the suicide bombers or the mastermind behind the attacks.
