Abducted schoolgirl found with abductor in a luxury bus

A 31-year-old man who abducted an 18-year-old schoolgirl at Daulagala, Kandy, on 11 January, was taken into custody at the Ampara bus stand yesterday (13) morning. The girl had been with the suspect at the time police arrived at the scene, sources said, adding that they were on a Kandy-bound luxury bus.

Police identified the suspect as Mohammed Nassar of Kahatapitiya, Gampola. He is a relative of the girl.

Having ascertained his whereabouts with the help of his mobile phone data, the police found the couple. Police said that after abducting the girl, the suspect had taken her to Polonnaruwa, Valaichchenai, and then to Ampara, in a three-wheeler.

The suspect has claimed that he was employed in Japan he gave money to the girl’s father, a relative of his, but the money had not been never repaid and his proposal for marriage to the girl, too, had been rejected. Investigations are continuing.
