A better country will be created for the children of Sri Lanka within the next 5-10 years -President
President Ranil Wickremesinghe reiterating his commitment to ensure that no child in the country will suffer, pledged that a better country will be created for the children of Sri Lanka within the next 5-10 years.
President Wickremesinghe made these remarks while addressing the ceremony held to award Presidential scholarships held at Temple Trees on Wednesday (19)
He stated that the Aswasuma program was implemented to provide income support to the people, while the Urumaya program was implemented to secure land rights while the Presidential Education Scholarship Program was launched aimed at ensuring educational opportunities for children.
6,000 students [60 G.C.E. Advanced Level students from each of the 100 education zones] who have been selected, will receive LKR 6,000 per month for a period of two years commencing March 2024 until the completion of their G.C.E. Advanced Level studies.
Additionally, following the concept of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, a scholarship program is being implemented for students from grade 1 to grade 11, covering all 10,126 schools across the island. The number of scholarships allocated to each school depend on its student enrollment, ranging from a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 22 scholarships per school. Beginning from April 2024, educational scholarships from the President’s Fund will be provided to 100,000 students, amounting to Rs. 3,000 per child per month for 12 months.
Symbolizing the awarding of scholarships, 5,108 students received scholarships and awards on Wednesday.
