Kenyan and Lankan Presidents in cordial telephone chat

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Kenyan President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta engaged in a cordial telephone conversation yesterday morning (3). While expressing satisfaction over the growing bilateral relations between the two countries, the two leaders stressed the need to further enhance bilateral cooperation, the Presidential Media Division said.

 It said: President Kenyatta commended the COVID-19 control measures taken by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the success of the vaccination drive.

 He said the vaccination drive which has already covered almost 70% of the population is an example to other nations as well.

 Though the numbers of Covid-19 patients and the deaths were managed well by controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, President Rajapaksa pointed out that new variants emerged in the middle of this year. The President said that Sri Lanka has always proved to be resilient by facing various challenges throughout history, and added the country will successfully rise again by controlling the pandemic. The two leaders also shared views on global and regional issues.

Cabinet approves 14 day Visa extension

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.

The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
