US embassy consultations with political parties: Devolution of power among issues discussed
In continuing consultations with political parties here, US Embassy officials yesterday (22) discussed what sources called matters of bilateral interests with SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem.
Sources said that discussions covered post-war reconciliation efforts, devolution of power, rule of law, Prevention of Terrorism Act and other issues.
Ambassador Alaina B. Teplitz, Deputy Political Chief Marcus B Carpenter and Economic Section Chief Susan F. Walke represented the US embassy in talks.
Recently, a US embassy delegation led by Ambassador Alaina B. Teplitz held discussions with TNA leader R. Sampanthan at the latter’s residence, where the focus was on the proposed new Constitution.
Both US and Indian missions are engaged in discussions with political parties represented in parliament and other groups to reach sort of common agenda. Among those invited for talks at India House were former LTTE Commander Karuna and ex-LTTE leader turned lawmaker Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pilleyan. Both Pilleyan and Karuna back the SLPP whereas the SLMC contested the last general election on the SJB ticket (SF).

Cabinet approves 14 day Visa extension
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.

Sunil Galagama appointed as District Secretary Badulla
Taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint Sunil Galagama, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, as the District Secretary to Badulla Administrative District with immediate effect.

Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi appointed District Secretary Ampara
The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
