GL calls on all Lankans to have united stand on UNHRC resolutions against SL
All Sri Lankans should have a united stand on the UNHRC resolutions against Sri Lanka, Minister of Education Prof. G. L. Peiris said on Thursday night addressing an event for SLPP lawyers at Battaramulla.
“This is important if we want to protect the war heroes, independence and sovereignty of Sri Lanka,” he said.
Minister Peiris said that within 12 hours of passing the resolution, UNHRC had called in applications for 12 vacancies as regards a mechanism to investigate Sri Lanka.
“USD 12.8 million has been allocated for this. Moreover, the sources of information in its previous reports will not be divulged for 20 years. How can we answer them? On the other hand, wife of Anton Balasingham is still in England. She is living safe and sound there. There is a conspiracy against Sri Lanka. We must stand together.”
Prof. Peiris said that even the SJB MP Harsha de Silva had asked the UN to furnish us with the evidence it had. This is a commendable move, the Minister said.
“As lawyers you have a big role to play. You Can play a big role in improving the legal system,” Minister Peiris said.
