Facebook party raided by Alubomulla police net 28 youth with ganja and hashish
A Facebook party held with loud music at Gunnawatta in Mahabellana, Alubomulla, was raided in the early hours of Saturday (14) leading to the arrest of 26 youth — including 10 university students — along with cannabis and hashish.
Acting on a tip-off received by the Police Emergency Service number 119, a team, led by Alubomulla Police OIC, Inspector Sanjeewa Lakmal, surrounded the location and apprehended the suspects. Among those arrested were 16 individuals with cannabis and hashish in their possession and 10 others had been unable to confirm their identities, police added.
The party had reportedly been organised, via Facebook, and was attended by individuals, aged between 20 and 28, from Bandaragama, Pokunuwita, Millaniya, Halatota, Ingiriya, and Paragastota. Police also confirmed that among the suspects taken into custoy were 10 students from a private university. The raid was carried out under the direction of Inspector Sanjeewa Lakmal, with the assistance of Sub-Inspector Chanaka and Police Constables Ekanayake (29383), Tharaka (23013), Wasantha (95633), Bandara (100052), Vishwa (106605), Harshana (106606), Kumara (100047), Rasanjana (102122), and Woman Police Constable Dias (13172).
