Trump picks up two swing states as Republicans projected to win control of Senate
The Republican Party is set to take control of the Senate, according to a projection from the BBC’s US partner CBS.
There are still lots of races being counted, but it looks clear that the Democrats will lose their effective majority of just one.
The Democrats were hoping to take a Republican seat to limit the expected damage in West Virginia but, according to a projection, have failed to unseat Ted Cruz in Texas, which was one of the party’s key targets.
Donald Trump declared victory in the US election addressing jubilant supporters in Florida. “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” he said to cheering crowds The Republican has picked up the battleground states of Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia, leaving Kamala Harris with only a narrow path to victory.
As things stand, Donald Trump looks set to win the popular vote – i.e., win the most votes in total – something he didn’t even do in 2016.

Pennsylvania is a huge victory for Donald Trump. He is now on the edge of winning back the White House, in what would signify a remarkable comeback.
This is his third election campaign. People talked about his ground game not being good enough. His messaging on abortion not being enough to convice women.
But any moment we are expecting Donald Trump to come on stage and probably declare victory.
