SLPA leases out 43 hectares from Trinco port to build 20MW solar power project

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority has allocated 43 hectares of land in Kappalthure, Trincomalee, for a 20-megawatt solar power project, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation said in a press statement yesterday (25).

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that the land owned by the Trincomalee Port has been given to a Sri Lankan company on a thirty-year lease, which will generate an income of 1.75 million rupees per month to the Ports Authority

This initiative supports the national goal of increasing the country’s renewable energy to 70% by 2030.The minister said they have earmarked lands owned by his ministry and the Ports Authority, which cannot be used for other purposes, to investors for renewable energy projects.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.
