Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya and Hambantota districts while several spells of showers will occur in the Northern province and in Anuradhapura and Kandy districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere of the island after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Uva provinces and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times in Eastern slopes of the Central hills and in Northern, North-Central, North-western, Eastern,Uva and Southern provinces.

Wind speed may increase up to (40-50) kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa and up to (50-55) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Pottuvil to Galle via Hambantota.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and also from Pottuvil to Galle via Hambantota will be rough at times while the sea areas off the coast extending Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa will be fairly rough at times. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers are likely in the coastal areas of the Western province and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 pm. Fairly heavy showers  above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Northern and North-central provinces and in Hambantota district.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Colombo, Gampaha, Hambantota and Monaragala districts during the day time.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.


Effect of the heat index on the human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
