Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 25 October 2023 by the Department of Meteorology

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the most provinces of the island after 01.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers about 50 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa province and in Galle and Matara districts.

Winds will be variable in direction in the sea areas around island and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

On the apparent northward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 05th to 14th of April in this year.

The nearest areas of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (07th) are Colombo, Awissawella, Talawakelle, Dimbula, Galakumbura and Dambagalla at about 12:12 noon.

Showers may occur in the coastal areas of  the Western and Southern provinces and in Puttalam, Mannar, Jaffna and Ampara districts in the morning  while  showers or thundershowers will occur at most places of the island during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy rainfall of above 75 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-central, Southern and Eastern provinces.
