Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 07 October 2023 by the Department of Meteorology

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Matale and Mullaitivu districts during the evening or night.

Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be (20-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is weakening into a depression. The impact of this system on Sri Lanka’s weather is expected to gradually decrease from today.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the above areas.

Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale Districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Deep Depression over the West-central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal is moving west-northwestwards and is currently crossing the North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha coasts of India.

Although this system will not have a direct impact on Sri Lanka, the prevailing rainy conditions in the southwestern part of the island are expected to continue due to the wind flow towards the system.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts. Heavy showerss above 100 mm are likely at some places in the above areas.

A few showers will occur in North-central province and in Mannar district.

Strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale Districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Depression over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, to the northeast of Sri Lanka, has intensified into a Deep Depression.

Although this system will not have a direct impact on Sri Lanka,e the prevailing rainy conditions in the southwestern part of the island are expected to continue due to the wind flow towards the system.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in the above areas.

Several spells of showers may occur in the North-central province and Mannar district.

Strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale Districts.
