SJB steps up pressure on Speaker, his Secy.
Amidst the ongoing controversy over Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne’s conduct in the wake of sacked Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne moving the CIABOC (Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption) against him, the SJB yesterday (11) brought to the CIABOC notice an alleged bid by the Speaker’s Secretary to interfere with ongoing investigations.
A delegation of SJB MPs lodged a complaint with CIABOC against the official, who wrote to the Secretary General of Parliament, Kushani Rohanadeera, seeking information regarding Kularatne’s complaint to the CIABOC.
On 02 February, suspended Deputy Secretary General of Parliament and Chief of Staff, Chaminda Kularatne filed a complaint with the CIABOC levelling corruption allegations against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.
In his complaint, Kularatne accused the Speaker of several violations, including misuse of official vehicles, unlawfully obtaining two fuel allowances and using two official residences.
On 05 Feb., SJB MP Harshana Rajakaruna revealed in Parliament that the Speaker’s Private Secretary had sent a letter to the Secretary-General of Parliament requesting information related to the complaint.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.
Taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint Sunil Galagama, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, as the District Secretary to Badulla Administrative District with immediate effect.
The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
