Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 13 February 2024 by the Department of Meteorology

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Showers will occur in Northern, Eastern, North-central  and Uva provinces and in  Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Winds will be north-easterly. Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times in eastern slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-Central, Southern,North-western, Uva and Eastern provinces. Wind speed may increase up to (55-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam.

The sea areas off the coasts from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam, can be rough at times. Other sea areas around the island can be moderate.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts during the morning.

Cloudy skies can be expected over the Southern half of the island.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Nuwara-Eliya and Matale districts and at several places elsewhere in the island after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-western provinces.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
