Showers  in all provinces and showers above 100 mm likely at some places in Central and  Uva provinces

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning during thundershowers as the atmospheric conditions are favorable further for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the most parts of the island during the evening or night. Showers may occur over the coastal areas of Western and Southern provinces during the morning too. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Central and  Uva provinces.

Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota, and variable in direction in the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph

The sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern province while a few showers will occur in Galle and Matara districts. Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere.

Strong winds of (40-45) kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Central and Southern provinces.

The Cyclonic Storm “FENGAL” [pronounced as FEINJAL] over Southwest Bay of Bengal has entered India by crossing north Tamil Nadu -Puducherry coasts at 11.30 p.m. on 30th November 2024 as a cyclonic storm. It is likely to move west-southwestwards slowly and weaken gradually into a deep depression during next 3 hours.

The influence of this system on the island’s weather is  gradually reducing further. But, skies will be cloudy.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, and North-central povinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places elsewhere of the island in the evening or night.

Strong winds of (50-55) kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Central and Southern provinces.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Landslide early warnings issued to the districts of Colombo Badulla, Gampaha, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Nuwara Eliya and Rathnapura

The Landslide Early Warning Centre of the National Building Research Organization [NBRO] has issued landslide early warnings to the districts of Colombo Badulla, Gampaha, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Nuwara Eliya and  Rathnapura effective until 4.00pm on 01st December 2024.

Accordingly,
Level II landslide early warnings have been issued to the Divisional Secretaries Divisions and surrounding areas of Bandarawela, Meegahakiuwla, Passara and Hali Ela in the Badulla district, Delthota, Pasbage Korale, Udapalatha, Kandy Four Gravets or Gangawata Korale, Akurana, Pathadumbara, Ududumbara, Yatinuwara, Hatharaliyadda, Doluwa, Harispaththuwa, Medadumbara, Pathahewaheta, Udunuwara, Panwila, Poojapitiya, Thumpane and Ganga Ihala Korale in the Kandy district, Galigamuwa, Bulathkohupitiya, Warakapola, Mawanella, Rambukkana, yatiyanthota, Aranayake and Ruwanwella in the Kegalle district, Rattota, Wilgamuwa, Laggala Pallegama, Pallepola, Matale, Ambanganga Korale, Ukuwela, Naula and Yatawatta in the Matale district and Hanguraketha, Walapane and Kotmale in the Nuwara Eliya district.

Level I landslide early warnings have been issued to the Divisional Secretaries Divisions and surrounding areas of Lungala, Haldumulla, Welimada, Ella, Soranathota, Kandeketiya, Uva Paranagama, Haputale and Badulla in the Badulla district, Seethawaka in the Colombo district, Attanagalla in the Gampaha district, Deraniyagala, Dehiowita and Kegalle in the Kegalle district, Rideegama and Mawathagama in the Kurunegala district, Nuwara Eliya and Ambagamuwa in the Nuwara Eliya district and Blangoda, Imbulpe and Eheliyagoda in the Ratnapura district.
