Security beefed up near remote schools in Mannar

Law enforcement authorities in Mannar have decided to beef up security near rural schools in the district until further notice following several alleged attempts to drug and abduct school children.
A few days ago there was a report that a group travelling in a car had been offering sweets to students who were travelling on rural roads.They had also tried to lure the children into the car.The children had not taken up the offer and informed their parents, who in turn informed the principal of the school.The principal reported the incident to regional educational authorities and the police.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities to hold the 26th Session of the Intergovernmental Group on Tea of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the 4th Annual Meeting of the Asian Tea Alliance to commemorate the Centenary Anniversary of the Tea Research Institute in Colombo from 9th November to 14th November in 2025 and to take necessary steps in that respect.
