Public Security Ministry gets ready with countrywide ‘crime prevention wave’

Public Security Minister Rear Admiral (retd.) Dr. Sarath Weerasekara said, on Saturday, that his Ministry was planning to implement a one-week long countrywide ‘crime prevention wave’ operation combining the Special Task Force, Army and the Police to crack down on organized crime, drug trafficking and extortion rackets.
Speaking at a ceremony held to form Southern Province Security Committees in Matara, the Minister said that the planned special operation would be carried out with the full support of the intelligence services and the public and it was possible for people to provide information through the Police hotlines 118 and 119.
The Minister said the purpose of the operation was to enable the general public to live without any fear or suspicion.
He added that the Hotline 118 had been used by two female victims blackmailed by two males for a long time and both suspects were arrested, produced before courts and remanded.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the combined proposal presented by the Minister of Tourism and Lands and the Minister of Buddhasashana, Cultural and Religious Affairs to prepare a Master Plan to develop Sigiriya as a sustainable tourist destination with the contribution of all relevant parties.

Cabinet approves incorporation of the Sri Lanka Institute of Agriculture

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Agriculture to incorporate the Sri Lanka Institute of Agriculture, which currently has more than 1000 agricultural professionals as members, and to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare the bill for the same, so that the quality of service and ethics of the agricultural professionals can be widely, efficiently and effectively ensured.
