President meets Tamil MPs from North and East: Discusses burning issues
President Ranil Wickremesinghe met MPs representing the Tamil community from the North and East, on Thursday (21), at the Presidential Secretariat.The discussions focused on land rights in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, the implementation of laws related to resettlement and reconciliation, and the challenges faced by Sri Lankans in refugee camps in India. Additionally, numerous issues concerning district development in the Northern and Eastern Provinces were addressed.
The Members of Parliament from the Northern and Eastern Provinces, namely R. Sampanthan, S. Rasamanickam, G. Karunakaran, T. Kalai Arasan and Kulasingham Dileepan, were in attendance. Other notable figures present at the meeting included Justice and Prison Reforms Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, State Minister for Higher Education Dr. Suren Raghavan, President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake, Prime Minister’s Secretary Anura Dissanayake, Justice and Prison Reforms Ministry Secretary Wasantha Perera, Defence Ministry Secretary General (retd.) Kamal Gunaratne, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aruni Wijewardena, Secretary of the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation R.M.C.M. Herath, Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Lands H.M.P.B. Herath, as well as heads of institutions related to the reconciliation process.

Cabinet approves 14 day Visa extension
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.

Sunil Galagama appointed as District Secretary Badulla
Taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint Sunil Galagama, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, as the District Secretary to Badulla Administrative District with immediate effect.

Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi appointed District Secretary Ampara
The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
